About Us

Who We Are

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has had a proud history in West Michigan since June 19, 1902, when Local 275 was first chartered in Muskegon. Originally centered in Muskegon County, Local 275 merged with Grand Rapids-based Local 107 in 1996, recognizing the interconnected economies of our region. Together, we’ve built a stronger local union with the ability to standardize training, improve competitiveness, and ensure another 100 years of success for West Michigan’s electrical industry.

Our members work across all sectors of the economy. We are your friends, neighbors, and coworkers — dedicated to improving wages, safety, retirement security, and working conditions, while also giving back through volunteer service and local community projects.

Just as businesses organize for profit, we believe working people must organize their labor to secure fair wages, strong benefits, safe workplaces, and long-term job security. As a democratic union, our members elect their representatives, negotiate and vote on contracts, and shape the direction of our local together.

Our NECA contractors benefit directly from this partnership. With a highly skilled, safety-trained workforce available when they need it, contractors can take on more projects, scale efficiently, and deliver the quality results their customers expect. By working together, IBEW Local 275 and NECA provide stability, competitiveness, and innovation for the entire electrical industry in West Michigan.
